Ahmedabad: While being posted at Vadodara as a Captain with the Army, tragedy struck 26-year Rajat Mishra in 2004.
The patrol vehicle he was travelling in, hit a tractor trolley head on. Regaining consciousness about ten days later, Mishra found that his right arm had been amputated. But the never-say-die attitude of the Armyman prevailed.
"I did a visual check and found out that all the other body parts were ok. I then asked the people if I could have a chocolate shake. It was almost humourous,†said Mishra, a student of IIM-Ahmedabad.
He learnt writing with his left hand and appeared for both CAT and GMAT.
He got admission calls from both ISB as well as IIM-A. Rajat is already popular among the new batch of the PGP programme at IIM-A. In fact, his friends say they feel inspired after getting to know his story.
"The exuberance and enthusiasm that he has got is awe-inspiring. The self-motivation and enthusiasm in him will be a inspiration for life,†said a fellow IIM-A student, Amol Gawli.
Mishra says management was the most natural option for him after the Army stint, as one is taught to manage resources there too.
