Vadodara: In another case of honour-killing, a man in Vadodara murdered his daughter for marrying against the wishes of the family.

Nineteen-year-old Vandana was allegedly shot by her own father – ex-armyman Jayvirsingh Bhadodiya – and later struck on the head with an axe.

Vandana was killed because she married her lover Mayur Marathe in December, against the wishes of her family.

Bhadodiya had called Vandana on Monday afternoon to sign some cheques and the unsuspecting daughter fell for the trap.

“When I heard gunshots I tried to intervene but they fired at me, too and threw me out of the house. Her sister had an axe and she and her mother killed her,” recounted Vandana’s nephew, Krunal Marathe.

Showing no remorse, Bhadodiya then called the police and confessed. When the police arrested him, he was allegedly drunk.

"We have sent the gun for FSL examination and have arrested him under charges of murder," said Vadodara City ACP D B Damor

This is the second case of honour killing reported in less than a fortnight.

Last week, in a similar incident in Haryana, a father had killed his pregnant daughter for living in with her lover.
