Poonch: One jawan was killed and a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) reported missing during an encounter between Army personnel and six suspected Jaish-e-Mohammed(JeM) terrorists which continued for the second day on Thursday in the Poonch sector close to the Line of Control with Pakistan.
The six terrorists including JeM local commander Abu Dawood have been encircled by the security forces amidst intermittent gunfire that went on in Bhatidar late on Thursday night.
The encounter began Wednesday evening, Army sources said.
The sources said a clear picture was yet to emerge about any casualties suffered by the security forces amid unconfirmed reports that two jawans may have been killed in the encounter.
The encounter is taking place in the backdrop of Indo-Pak tensions following evidence that the November 26 Mumbai terror attacks originated from Pakistan.
