Arrested terrorist confesses role in blast

CNN-IBN

New Delhi: A terror suspect arrested from Delhi's Jamia Nagar on Friday has confessed his involvement in the recent blasts in Ahmedabad, Jaipur and Delhi, sources said.

Saif admitted that his associate Bashir alias Atiq masterminded all the blasts. Sources also claim that it was Saif who planted the bomb outside Regal Cinema in Central Delhi.

Saif was arrested following a fierce exchange of fire between the Special Cell of the Delhi Police and five suspected Indian Mujahideen terrorists, who were holed up inside House No L-18, Batla House in Jamia Nagar.

Police gunned down two suspects while the other two managed to escape.

Bashir, whom the police had been searching for in the area, was shot dead during the encounter.

The Special Cell of Delhi Police also arrested another terror suspect, Zeeshan, from the Jhandewalan area of Central Delhi on Friday.

Sources claim Zeeshan and Sajid — another terror suspect shot dead in Friday's encounter — planted bombs in Greater Kailash - I Market of New Delhi.

Investigations revealed ten people were involved in Delhi blasts. With two arrested and two dead after Friday’s encounter, police are now on a lookout of the remaining six.

Police sources said the initial round questioning indicated involvement of a 14-year-old bomb-maker in the terror module, and added that many more people involved in the module are spread all over India.

Saif will be produced in court on Saturday at around 1400 hrs IST. The breakthrough has been made on the basis of his confession.

The Special Cell is pushing for a police remand for Saif. Zeeshan and Saif have been charged for Murder under the Arms Act.

Police claim Bashir was the mastermind of all the blasts.

They added that the role of Tauqeer — dubbed the techie brain behind the recent blasts and the 'Indian Osama' — is not as significant as that of Bashir's.

The initial stage of interrogations revealed that Tauqeer was the editor of Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) mouthpiece Islamic Movement, and had allegedly sent the Indian Mujahideen e-mails minutes before the Delhi and Ahmedabad blasts, threatening terror attack.

Bashir is being seen as the mastermind behind running the terror module and is an original SIMI member. He is believed to have launched Indian Mujahideen — an amorphous radical version of SIMI.

Meanwhile, another SIMI activist, Mohammad Ali, has been detained in a joint operation of Rajasthan, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh and the Intelligence Bureau.

Ali — who is said to be one of the treasurer's of SIMI — was nabbed from Amarkantak Express near Narsingpur. His face resembles the sketch of the Gaffar market bomber released by the Delhi Police.
