New Delhi: We have heard of people taking to art as an act of rebellion, but here is someone who turned away from it.
Like every other rebellious teenager, Maya Burman was sure that she didn’t want to follow in her parents’ footsteps.
The daughter of well-known Paris based artists Sakti Burman and Maite Delteil, studied architecture as a student, but she soon read the writing on the wall.
“I am painting like you are breathing, eating and this is something I have to do you know it is inside me, It is compulsory. There is no question of doing something else,” says Maya.
But prodigal daughter returned back to the family business. Now as an established artist Maya Burman opens her exhibition titled ‘Once Upon A Time’, at Mumbai's Art Musings Gallery, and there is plenty of advice coming in from all sides.
“I try to judge her work as an artist and not as a father. Sometimes we have discussions and sometimes a little bit of you know tussle,” says Shakti.
But there is no tussle in Maya's pen and watercolour paintings. What one can see instead is a celebration of life's tender moments.
