Mumbai: It's that time of the year again when Mumbaikars gear up to welcome their favorite deity, Lord Ganesha. The city’s many idol makers are working through the night to make sure that they are ready in time for the festival.

Most, like Ajay Kumar haven't slept in days shielding their work from the rain and working at a fever pitch to ensure that orders are met.

This is one of the busiest times of the year for these craftsmen as Ganesh Chaturthi is followed by Gauri puja and then Durga puja. Larger idol makers often hire more than 25 men on an average who work around the clock to meet their targets.

Craftsmen can make upto Rs 250 a day depending on their skill and area of expertise.

Ravi, a graduate from the famous JJ School of Art, has an edge over the rest and is moonlighting as an idol maker for different reasons

“Everybody gets to meet Lord Ganesh on the 15th. But because we work on these idols, we get to spend a whole two months with him before anybody else and we earn good karma,” says Ravi.
