Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh has witnessed bandh in 173 days in the last 12 years. At least 4,168 hours have been affected by bandh calls in different parts of the state since 2001 till date, Chief Minister Nabam Tuki informed the Assembly on Saturday.
Tuki, who also holds the Home portfolio, was replying to a question raised in the house during question hour by NCP MLA Bamang Felix.
Tuki said, a total of 612 hours were affected alone in the state till August this year due to bandh calls while, it was 1,020 hours last year and 348 hours during 2010.

Chief Minister Nabam Tuki said at least 4,168 hours have been affected by bandh calls since 2001 till date.
Altogether 87 persons were arrested in connection with bandh calls during the period while a total number of 21 cases registered in different police stations of the state, he said.
Responding to a supplementary, Tuki informed the House that the state government had already declared bandh as illegal in pursuance to the Supreme Court order of 1997 where the apex court has declared bandh as violation to peoples rights.
The state government during bandh calls makes necessary security arrangements by deploying state police and paramilitary forces to avoid any untoward incidents, Tuki added.
