Click to play videoNew Delhi: A day after CNN-IBN exposed how Arunachal Pradesh health minister and senior Congress leader Atum Welly aided the illegal appointment of his son and daughter based on fake documents, the state chief minister Jarbom Gamlin on Friday attempted to shield him and said the documents submitted could be planted.
A forgery reaffirmed by RTI replies and even in the police affidavit. Gamlin, who has close links with Welly's family, denied the charges.
Gamlin said, "As far I know, His daughter joined the service with a class 12th certificate and the required qualification was of class 10th."
But the documents reveal that even though Anung Welly initially applied for a post of a staff artist, she was soon appointed as socio-cultural officer, a gazetted post which needs a graduate degree.
Clearly the state Congress is trying to shield Atum Welly and his case since the chief minister has close links with Welly family. Now it is upto the Congress high command to intervene and break this clout.
Meanwhile, the RTI activists on Friday met the Congress in charge for Arunachal DR Shandil who says the party will comment only after the investigations are complete. It is perhaps time for the high command to step where the state Congress has failed.
