Noida: The Arushi-Hemraj murder case is far from being solved even though more than one year has passed since the gruesome crime.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) named three people - Krishna, Rajkumar and Vijay Mandal - as accused in the case.
Senior Indian Police Service officer Arun Kumar, deputed to the CBI, led the team investigating the case and announced that Krishna, Rajkumar and Vijay Mandal were involved in killing the 14-year-old girl.
Under the glare of the media, the three were hauled away by the CBI as the main accused in the Arushi-Hemraj murder case, complete with details of the alleged crime.
Three months later when it was clear there was no evidence against then, they were out on bail. But the damage had been done.
Krishna who used to work as an assistant at the Talwar clinic has been jobless ever since. Rajkumar, who had been working as a driver, had to return to his native Nepal and Vijay Mandal, who had been a domestic help, is back at his hometown in Bihar.
The experience has been traumatic even for their families. Krishna's family is struggling to repay debts that were taken to arrange the Rs 50,000 needed as surety to secure his bail.
"Nobody is giving Krishna any job because he is being shown on TV. Everyone knows his face. Even if his brother or brother-in-law goes... nobody gives them a job because of the fear of the CBI," claimed Krishna's lawyer FC Sharma.
It now seems Krishna, Rajkumar and Vijay Mandal were arrested by the CBI merely in response to public pressure, instead of hard evidence.
Apart from the trauma faced by the three, the other problem staring back at the police is the still unsolved double murder.
