New Delhi: She turns 73 on Friday but the undisputed diva of Indian music Asha Bhonsle only seems to be getting younger when it comes to her melodiously sensuous voice.
Born on September 8, 1933, Asha Bhonsle did not reel under the shadow of her famous sister melody queen Lata Mangeshkar.
Instead, she carved a niche for herself in the Indian film industry and established herself as a versatile singer.
Her range of songs vary from range of songs includes film music, pop, ghazals, bhajans, to traditional Indian Classical music, folk songs, qawwalis, and Rabindra Sangeet.
Over nearly six decades of her career, Asha has done playback singing for over 925 Bollywood movies and has sold many records.
Having won eight Filmfare awards, Asha made a record when she became the first Indian to nominated for the Grammy Award, for Legacy, an album with mastero Ustad Ali Akbar Khan.
She has also 17 seventeen Maharashtra State Awards and the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2001 for her outstanding contribution to Indian cinema.
