New Delhi: Famous percussionist and founder of the popular Indian rock group Indian Ocean Asheem Chakravarty died on Friday due to a cardiac arrest.
He was 50 years old and his health had been weakened by previous heart complications.
His fans used to call him the man with the golden voice. But the golden voice was lost on Friday when the vocalist and percussionist of Indian Ocean passed away in New Delhi.
For the past two months, the 50-year-old musician had been hospitalised.
In October 2009, following the last leg of Indian Ocean's US and Middle East tour, Asheem suffered a heart attack at the Doha airport and went into coma.
In the last few days, he condition had been improving and there was news of him slowly recovering out of coma.
Asheem was one of the founding members of the band and has been performing for last two decades now.
He was also one of those rare percussionists who could sing while playing the tabla.
Known for his innovative use of traditional Indian percussion instruments, Asheem was incidentally largely self taught.
When Bollywood was still ruling the roost, the band paved the way for independent non film music and went to become rage.
