Guwahati: A six-year-old girl was allegedly raped in a tea garden at Titabor in upper Assam, police said on Monday.
According to the FIR filed on the complaint of the girl's father, she was called out of her house in the labour lines of Rongdoi tea estate on Sunday by the accused, who is known to the family. The man fled after committing the crime, it said.
The girl's father and locals have claimed that the incident took place due to the presence of illegal country liquor shops which attract miscreants to the area.
Police said the girl has been sent for medical examination and search operation has been launched for the absconding man.
