Guwahati: Christmas festivities in Assam this year are sombre and subdued. The oldest chapel of the northeast — part of which was affected during the Assam blasts — is all set to spread the message of peace this Christmas.
Father Aziz-ul-Haque is the pastor of the oldest chapel in the northeast and for members of the church this Christmas holds a special meaning.
"Mumbai attack took place on November 26 and Assam blast on October 30. As followers of Christ, as followers of prince of peace, we vehemently condemn such inhuman terrorist attacks," said Father Aziz-Ul-Haque.
"We have a message for the victims. We have been praying and in whatever possible ways we've been rendering our best service in consoling people," he added.
All members of the church have come forward to assist in plays, carols and prayers. They believe these efforts will spread the message of peace.
"This Christmas is not only about singing and enjoying, it is also about giving peace to people through the prince of peace, Jesus Christ," said a volunteer.
So this Christmas Assam stands united with prayers and songs not only for those who were killed in the Assam blasts but also for people affected in Mumbai terror attack.
