MADURAI: In a tragic incident, a van carrying a marriage group plunged into a well near Madurai, killing six persons, including a 11- year-old boy, late on Thursday. Four more persons were also feared dead in the accident. Three persons travelling in the van escaped with injuries. The ill-fated van was carrying a marriage party from Devaram in Theni to Thoothukudi. The marriage of engineering graduates — Satheesh from Devaram and Muthulakshmi alias Uma, from Thoothukudi — was reportedly solemnised on Monday at Thoothukudi.
The bride and the groom along with their relatives went to Devaram on the day of the marriage for a ceremonial function, said a police source. On Thursday, the relatives were returning from Devaram to Thoothukudi, when the van hit a small boulder and fell into the well.
