New Delhi: The space shuttle Atlantis will be delayed further as it needs to undock from the international space station, which it cannot do now as the space station's computers have failed.
The computers also control the station's orientation and the supply of oxygen and water.
NASA managers are in a desperate race against time to get the computers working before the shuttle's departure next Tuesday.
Earlier the shuttle's departure was delayed in order to repair a tear in the heat shield.
NASA engineers and astronauts are working on innovative ways to fix a tear in the heat shield of the shuttle Atlantis which had taken off last Friday.
One of the methods that could be used to fix the tear would be using a stainless steel wire serving as thread and an instrument with a rounded end resembling a small needle.
This is usually used to repair tears in astronaut suits but may work here as well.
Earlier, duct tape was found unusable in the vacuum of space.
A final decision is still pending on what would be the best way to deal with the problem.
Indian-American astronaut Sunita Williams is on board the shuttle and her return from a record six months in space has been put off until this heat shield is repaired.
