Click to play videoNew Delhi: The saffron terror trail has led investigators to Swami Asimananda's ashram in the Dangs district of Gujarat. The Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) questioned four persons associated with the ashram on Sunday in connection with the September 29 Malegaon bomb blast.
Swami Asimananda's room at the ashram has been locked ever since it emerged that he was in touch with Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur, one of the main accused in the Malegaon blasts. The sadhvi's phone records confirm contact with the swami.
Maharashtra ATS officers and the police visited the Dand Karanya Vanvasi Hostel in Waaghai, which was set up by Asimananda and questioned Sunil Dahavad, who worked as the Swami's driver and was later promoted as the cashier.
ATS sources say that the swami used Dahawad's SIM card to communicate. But residents of the area find it hard to believe that the swami could be involved with terror activities.
"He is a God fearing person. I do not believe that he can be involved in such bad activities," says Hiraji Kaamar, a resident of Dangs.
Back in Surat, the sadhvi's father, alleges his daughter is a victim of a political conspiracy, and alleges that she is being ill-treated by the ATS.
"We have come to know that our daughter had to face inhuman treatment from ATS during interrogation. There is politics involved in this. Some specific group are trying to shield themselves therefore there are blaming us," sadhvi's father Dr Chandrapal Singh alleges.
While the sadhvi is still in custody for her alleged involvement, the police are trying to ascertain if the Sunil Dahawad, or the swami or even any of his ashram staff had any role in the Malegaon blasts.
