New Delhi: Piaggio Vehicles Pvt. Ltd, the Italian motorcycle maker, unveiled the Vespa scooter at the 2012 Auto Expo. Piaggio started manufacture of the Vespa in 1946 and since then more than 17 million units have been sold worldwide.
The Vespa will hit Indian roads in April 2012 and will initially be available in 35 main cities. By bringing Vespa to India, Piaggio aims to make a premium segment for its brand.
To further spruce up things, Vespa will introduce its Vespa club, an elite group of enthusiasts who own Vespa scooters in India. Piaggio have set up a new facility at Baramati for Vespa's production. The plant has an initial capacity of 150,000.

Piaggio also introduced the Moto Guzzi as a brand. Depending on the feedback at Auto Expo 2012, they will also bring the Norge tourer to India. Piaggio will also offer the Aprilia Tuono, Mana, Dorsoduro and RSV4 in India.
