Jamshedpur: Amidst the ongoing financial slowdown and production slump, Tata Motors, the largest automobile manufacturer of India, today once again served 'no work' notice to around 400 non-permanent workers of its Jamshedpur plant.

The company had earlier laid off 300 non-permanent workers on October 20 citing similar reasons.

Company's labour union, Telco workers union general secretary Chandrabhan Prasad told UNI that the company had informed them about the curtailment of around 400 more workers because of the production slump.

''There are a total of around 3500 non permanent workers of which more than 1500 are already jobless because of the general annual production slump during monsoon season. Now the company has decided to shed another 400 to counter the latest production crisis.

''They were served notices yesterday and were asked not to come to work from today. Earlier 300 such workers from the engine and cab and coil divisions were retrenched on October 20,'' he added.

Meanwhile, Tata Motors spokesperson Captain P J Singh claimed that the retrenchment of non permanent workers was a normal process and was being done according to rotation due to production slump caused by several reasons apart form the global financial slowdown.
