Aviation Academy can help youngsters

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The State should make use of opportunities arising in every sector, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said on Wednesday, unveiling the foundation stone for the new academic building of the Rajiv Gandhi Academy for Aviation Technology at Chakkai, near here.
 Big changes are occurring in the nation’s aviation sector. There is need for young blood in the aviation sector of the State. The academy can help the younger generation explore opportunities in this sector, he said. The budget proposal to build air strips in the districts will introduce opportunities. The proposed Kannur International Airport Ltd, which will be the fourth airport in the State, will help boost the State’s development potential, Chandy said.
 Forest Minister K B Ganesh Kumar said that the Government was duty-bound to raise the Rajiv Gandhi Academy to the heights envisaged by G V Raja. The Government is also planning to introduce degree-level courses here, plus training programmes for air hostess, cabin crew and freight despatch, he said.
 Transport Minister V S Sivakumar presided over the function. Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Southern Air Command Air Marshal S P Singh, Transport Principal Secretary Tom Jose, academy executive Vice-Chairman V Thulasidas, Thiruvananthapuram Airport Director G Chandramouli, ward councillor P Padmakumar and captain Aloysius Pinto attended.
