Chittagong: In an exciting day in the Bangladesh Premier League, Sylhet Royals and Barisal Burners went past Rangpur Riders and Chittagong Kings respectively in close encounters. In the first match of the day, the Royals beat Riders by five wickets with three balls to go, and later in the day the Burners beat the Kings by six runs.
After winning the toss, Burners chose to bat first against Kings and put up a huge total of 182. Sabbir Rahman and Azhar Mahmood were the stars of the show. Rahman played a quickfire 40 off just 27 balls while Man-of-the-Match Mahmood made 35 off 29 balls.
Kevon Cooper was the pick of the bowlers as he scalped two important wickets by giving away only 27 runs in his four overs. In reply, the Kings got a good start as Brendon Taylor made a solid 51 off 42 balls but the man who really took the fight to the opposition was Mahmudullah. He played a scintillating knock of 45 off just 24 balls with the help of two sixes and three boundaries. Azhar Mahmood picked up two crucial wickets and Elias Sunny bowled an economical spell as he gave away only 24 runs in his four overs picking up three wickets.
At the MA Aziz Stadium in Chittagong, the Royals beat Rangpur Riders by five wickets with three balls to go. Chasing 123 to win, the Royals were struggling at one time at 62 for 4 in the 12th over before Nazmul Hossain Milon, in a rearguard action, struck an unbeaten 45 off 29 balls to take his team over the line, also bagging the Man-of-the-Match award for his efforts.
After being put into bat, the Riders got a decent start of 38 but lost wickets at regular intervals thereafter. Except opener Shamsur Rahman, who made 52, none of the Riders batters could hang in there. West Indies allrounder Dwayne Smith and upcoming Bangladesh spinner Sohag Gazi took three wickets apiece.
