B R Chopra, 93 and still going strong

Mumbai: The grand old daddy of Bollywood, filmmaker B R Chopra, came out to celebrate his 93rd birthday with some cinema students.

The students of Subhash Ghai's film school Whistling Woods had a memorable film lesson on Monday when B R Chopra was invited by the school to celebrate his birthday with them.

Chopra planted a tree in the campus and checked out the various facilities of the institute.

Despite being wheel-chair bound, the man who has delivered many a hit and even more classics to Indian cinema, still had the same enthusiasm for cinema as the young students around him.

"I like it over here," said he, when asked how he liked the campus.

The students were shown scenes from some of his popular films. The man who bought Mahabharat to middle-class homes gifted a copy of the epic to the school library.

So what keeps him going at 93?

"He love films and his family. These are the two things that have made a lot of difference in his life," says his son and producer-director Ravi Chopra.

"He always wanted to make films. He still wants to make films. He keeps on telling me, 'when I am going to get a good subject, I am going to make a film'," adds Ravi Chopra.

B R Chopra is truly a filmmaker who epitomises India's enduring passion for cinema.
