Jodhpur: A seven-day-old girl in Jodhpur lies abandoned and unclaimed at Jodhpur's Umaid Hospital nursery while two couples have been fighting to claim a baby boy born at the same time.
The unwanted newborn girl has been rudely denied crucial attention from her mother. A DNA test will now determine as to which of the two sets of couples are her biological parents. However, the result is slated to take several days.
The girl and the boy were both born on March 25.
The hospital superintendent says the girl was born to Poonam and Chain Singh but the staff told the couple that Poonam had given birth to a boy and by mistake brought to them a baby boy born to Reshmi and Ganga Singh.
"Till the report comes out, how can we accept whose child she is?" said Poonam.
Pooman's family claims that the hospital authorities refused to permit her to feed the baby until the DNA test report comes in. The police are now investigating the case.
