Click to play videoJaipur: The wait continues for little Manji, the Japanese baby born to an India surrogate mother. She cannot be re-united with her father in Japan just yet.
The Rajasthan High Court issued notices to the Central and the state government is directing them to produce the baby in court within four weeks.
The notice is on a habeas corpus petition filed by a Jaipur based NGO saying her surrogacy agreement is invalid.
Advocate, Rajasthan High Court, Jaipur, Abhinav Sharma said, “We're also seeking a CBI enquiry into this besides filing another PIL in the SC.”
The petitioners say the agreement does not have the signatures of Manji’s Japanese parents and that it was signed six months after the embryo was implanted in the surrogate mother.
Director, Voluntary Organisation, Jaipur, Sanjay Agarwal said that this could be a case of child trafficking. The NGO has sought her custody on these grounds.
Less than a month into this world, liitle Manji has already got into more than her fair share of legal tangles. The PIL being the latest.
