New Delhi: The Centre on Tuesday assured the Delhi High Court that it would demolish the 216 structures that have been unathorisedly constructed in the Capital's Lutyen's Bunglow zone.
The assurance was given by the Director General (Works) CPWD and the Additional Secretary, Ministry of Urban Development who personally appeared before the court in response to summons following a complaint that the Centre was dilly-dallying the issue of demolishing unauthorised structures in the VVIP zone.
A Division Bench headed by Acting Chief Justice Vijender Jain while taking on record the Centre's assurances, directed the Amicus Curaie Rekha Phalli, to examine the records pertaining to the said structures and submit a report to the court before September 18.
The two officials informed the court that as per an official survey, 216 bunglows belonging to different VVIPs were found to have been unathorisedly constructed.
However, in pursuant to the guidelines prepared by the PMO, it was decided to regularise some of these unauthorised structures if they fulfilled the parametres required for regularisation, which would be done taking into consideration the safety and aesthetic requiremnts of the structures, the Centre said.
Those structures which cannot be regularised would be demolished after their identification, the Government said.
Accepting the Government's submission the Bench directed the Government to take immediate steps to identify those structures which cannot be regularised and demolish them.
