Badal will get Prakash in Punjab: Sidhu

Narendra Nag, CNN-IBN

Amritsar: Former cricketer and Bharatiya Janata Party leader Navjot Singh Sidhu was spotted wearing a red turban in Amritsar on Tuesday morning when counting for the Assembly Elections began.

Sidhu is contesting Lok Sabha byelections in Amritsar Parliamentary Constituency opposite Punjab Finance Minister Surender Singla.

Sidhu told CNN-IBN’s Narendra Nag in his inimitable style that Punjab is on the brink of a new dawn in politics.

Narendra Nag: Sidhu is wearing his red turban. He has been saying since the morning that he is looking for the love of the people. Is this a Valentine effect?

Navjot Singh Sidhu: The voice of the people is the voice of God. Those who will have the faith of the people will be kings today. And those who betray that faith will be paupers.

Narendra Nag: Are you suggesting that Captain Amarinder Singh and your rival Mr Singla are on their way to becoming paupers?

Navjot Singh Sidhu: I am nobody to say that. All I’ll say that is that this was the government by the people, not for the people. This was the government for the land mafia, liquor mafia or the rich businessman. They have empowered the rich and pauperized the poor. I said it – Rs 60 per kg dal for the aam aadmi and Rs 60 per square yard of prime Punjab land for rich people.

So ultimately it will be the aam aadmi that will ask this question and I think there is a new dawn on the horizon. And if you analyse the word prakash, that is Prakash Singh Badal. It is a new chapter in the history of Punjab politics.
