New Delhi: Punjab Vigilance Bureau authorities on Saturday filed a case against former Chief Minister Capt. Amarinder Singh and 11 other people in connection with an alleged scam in a development project Ludhiana.
Amarinder is accused of favouring a company while allotting a project worth Rs 3,000 crore for the development of Ludhiana City Centre on Pakhowal Road.
The Vigilance Bureau alleges the Ludhiana Improvement Trust gave the project to Infrastructure Professional Enterprises (IPE) and allegedly violated norms and terms and conditions for this.
Amarinder, his local bodies minister Choudhary Jagjit Singh and chairman of the Ludhiana Improvement Trust Paramjit Singh Sibia have been accused of favouring IPE.
The Bureau has arrested two IPE officials Kamal Kumar Verma and Amit Sardana, said a PTI report from Ludhiana. The cases have been booked under Prevention of Corruption Act and other laws.
The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), which leads the Punjab government, had used the Ludhiana City Centre deal against Amarinder during its election campaign and demanded that the Central Bureau of Investigation probe the deal.
Amarinder later scrapped the Ludhiana Improvement Trust and ordered a vigilance probe. SAD chief and Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, who was named in corruption cases during Amarinder Singh, has said his government won’t be vindictive but law would prevail in corruption cases.
