Baichung happy with the new coach

Mumbai: Despite being hot contenders for the National Football League title this season, former champions East Bengal are feeling the heat ahead of their all-important tie against Salgaocar SC in Goa on Sunday.

Currently on top of the table with 28 points, East Bengal is feeling the pressure with Mahindra United just two points behind.

East Bengal's star striker Baichung Bhutia spoke about the way his team has been performing in the National Football League.

"I think this season has been good as East Bengal has been playing well as a team. They have a new coach who is fresh with ideas. On the whole the team is playing better. A number of youngsters are also in the team and with a few more matches, I am sure, the4y are going to improve. As a team also East Bengal is getting better," Baichung Bhutia said.

When asked about the phase when Subhash Bhowmick, the former coach of East Bengal, was arrested Baichung said that he wasn't signed up with the club during that time.

"But the players have carried on and they are aware that they must continue playing. The players have forgotten and everybody is enjoying the game," Baichung said.

Baichung said the new coach of East Bengal, Philips, has come in with some fresh ideas.

"He is a wonderful person and a good coach. I feel he is really talented and his tactics are great. If you look realistically we are not a great team on paper but we have become a different team after he has taken over," he added.

The striker also said that everybody is enjoying and loving Philips' training and that is a good sign.
