New Delhi: There is finally some relief for beleaguered Pakistan pacer Shoaib Akhtar as the appellate tribunal of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Sunday decided to suspend the five-year ban on him for a month to allow him to play in the Indian Premier League.
His ban has been suspended till the next hearing, which is scheduled to take place on June 3.
"The ban has been shifted to the next hearing," said the PCB.
PCB Spokesperson Aamir Bilal said that PCB won't stop Shoaib from playing in IPL.
"We said it earlier that we had nothing personally against Shoaib. This means he can now play for the IPL. If the IPL allows him to play, PCB won't stand in his way," Bilal said.
Reacting to this news, IPL chairman Lalit Modi has welcomed the step by the the Pakistan Board.
"I have just been communicated by the PCB that ban has been removed and I am welcoming Shoaib Akhtar to play for the IPL," said Modi.
Shoaib had been banned by the Pakistan cricket board for 5 years for indiscipline and that ban had been upheld by an appeals committee last week.
After PBC suspended Shoaib Akhtar for five years from playing for Pakistan cricket a few days ago, the Indian Cricket Board (BCCI) and the IPL had last month stopped Shoaib Akhtar from joining his team in the IPL - the Kolkata Knight Riders because of the ban imposed on him by the PCB from playing for or anywhere in Pakistan .
The IPL contracts which says that it does not allow players banned by their home board to play in the league, was a roadblock in the way of Shoaib playing for the Kolkata Knight Riders team.
