New Delhi: Former dacoit Seema Parihar is all set to make an attempt to enter Parliament. The Indian Justice Party (IJP) on Sunday named her as its nominee for the by-elections to the Mirzapur parliamentary seat.

The bypolls for the Mirzapur parliamentary seat will be held on May 3 along with the sixth phase of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls.

The byelection was necessitated after the Bahujan Samaj Party MP Narendra Singh Kushwaha resigned from the seat after he was found guilty in a bribery case. Kushwaha had defeated Virendra Singh of the Bharatiya Janata Party to win the seat in 2004.

Earlier, Phoolan Devi had successfully contested from the Mirzapur parliamentary constituency.

IJP general secretary Kali Charan said on Sunday that it will field Parihar in the seat against Samajwadi Party (SP) candidate Ramrati Bind and Mr Ramesh Dubey of the BSP. The BJP and Congress are yet finalise their candidates.

The 35-year-old bandit is accused of around 30 cases of murder, robbery and kidnapping and is currently out on bail.
