Bangalore: In Bangalore, a four-year-old boy drowned in the swimming pool of his own apartment complex. His family, that lives in the upscale Shobha Windfall apartments, is yet to come to terms with the loss.

Four-year-old Rakshith was playing with his friends near the swimming pool when he stumbled and fell into the pool. Though he was pulled out in five minutes and rushed to a hospital, he died on the way.

The police is unwilling to pin the blame only on the security personnel manning the pool. They say that since the children were unaccompanied by parents, it was negligence on their part as well.

While the city's top apartment developers remain mum on the issue, most residential associations say that safety norms are followed as far as swimming pools are concerned.

Most such pools have barricades or fences around them. Moreover, security staff or lifeguards man them during the time of use.

Most swimming pools in apartment complexes across the city do have safety measures like depth indicators and lifeguard bays in place. However, as Rakshith's tragic death indicates, not even the strictest of safety measures are fool-proof if the person manning them is negligent.
