Bangalore: Love is not just blind, it can lead to blindness too. It is a fact that young Raghu is bitterly aware of as he is wheeled out of hospital. His girlfriend's relatives, objecting to their relationship, allegedly gouged his eyes out.
"They put their fingers into my eyes and caused agonising pain. Her brother said he won't have peace till I die. He has threatened to kill me," says Raghu.
Raghu, who worked as a gym trainer in Mandya, was in a relationship with a girl, Anusha, for four years. Raghu says they were married two years ago, but her parents later took her away by force.
On Tuesday, she was even married away to someone else and had even invited Raghu to the wedding. But when he reached there the girl's brother and uncle took him in a car to a remote place and beat him up with iron rods before gouging his eyes out. Doctors say there is little chance of his seeing again.
"He's saying he was hit with a fist, injuring both eyes. In right eye there's no light, in left eye he is able to see some light. So there's some hope. But chances are very remote," says Narayana Netralaya CMD Dr K Bhujang Shetty.
The victim, Raghu's friends claim that though they lodged a police complaint nearly three days back, not much action has been taken against the culprits. For the victim himself, it's not just about the love life gone awry, but he's staring into a life of darkness, because of this beastly attack.
