Bangalore: The gruesome murder of 29-year-old software professional in the upmarket J P Nagar colony in Bangalore has sent shock waves.

Payal Surekha, who was working as a technical associate with DELL, was found lying on the bed with her throat slit on Friday evening.

Payal, a native of Orissa, had joined DELL a month back. Police say that the techie could have been murdered by someone she knew.

“She knew who the person was when she opened the door, we are conducting our investigations,” said Sonia Narang, DCP, Bangalore South.

Though the murder came to light in the evening, forensic reports point out that she was murdered at around 10 AM on Friday. Eyewitnesses say that they did see a stranger asking information about Payal in the morning. Police are now trying to get sketches of the person from these accounts.

Bangalore has seen a spate of murders in the past fortnight raising questions about the rising crime rate in the city and Payal's murder will be another challenge for the Bangalore police.
