Bangalore drain swallows child

Bangalore: Bangalore: A six-year-old boy has gone missing in the open sewers of Bangalore and his parents have given up hope.

Abhishek Prakash was swept away after he fell into an open drain at Lingarajapuram over a week ago.

The civic authorities are yet to locate the child's body. Abhishek's parents who were busy preparing their son for a new year in school have lost all hope.

Abhishek’s father said, “It has been more than a week. I've lost all hope now.”

The city’s crumbling infrastructure and open drains have become death traps.

Barely five days before Abhishek went missing, a 60-year-old man too had lost his life after driving his scooter into an open storm-water drain.

His body was recovered several hours later.

Politicians though, continue to draw attention to their plans on anvil.

“Storm water drain work is an ongoing project and we're in fact speeding up the work. We'll finish it as early as possible,” promised the MP from Central Bangalore, PC Mohan.

The city touted as one of India’s finest to live in has deep-rooted infrastructural problems. When the monsoon showers get heavy, the citizens are sure to face mammoth problems in simple things like commuting with ease.
