Bangalore: The level-one flyover built by the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) at the junction of Outer Ring Road (ORR) near Nayandahalli Junction, connecting ORR from Tumkur Road to Banashankari is all set to be inaugurated by this weekend. Earlier, commuters needed at least 15-20 minutes to cross the junction during peak hours.
Hundreds of vehicles coming from Magadi Road, Tumkur Road, Peenya, Nagarbhavi, Yeshwantpur, Bangalore International Airport, etc, heading towards Banashankari, Kanakpura Road, JP Nagar, Bannerghatta Road, BTM Layout, Silk Board Junction, Electronic City, Hosur Road, Sarjapura, HSR Layout, Mahadevpura, Hebbal and Yelanka had to wait for the signals to go green at least four-five times to cross the Nayandahalli junction, said a traffic constable attached to Byatarayanapura Police Station.
“With the level-one flyover opened on trial basis from last Saturday, the traffic density at the Nayandahalli junction has reduced by almost 50 per cent. It was a nightmare for us to control the traffic at the junction during peak hours from 8 am till 11 am and 4.30 pm till 8 pm,” the traffic constable added.
Commuters heading towards Mysore from the City have still some time to get some relief due to the delay of construction of the level-two flyover starting from the Indian Oil Petrol Bunk till Hitech Hospital, perpendicular to the level-one.
“It is a 900 metre flyover. Erection of pillars is already over. Only the segments have to be assembled. We may need seven to eight months to complete it. Once this stretch is open, vehicles from city to Mysore Road need not wait at the Nayandahalli junction,” said a BDA engineer.
