Bangalore: Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumarswamy has officially announced the change of Bangalore's name to Bengaluru. But it's going to be Bangalore for some more time.

The Chief Minister's announcement at the Rajyotsava Day celebrations on Wednesday night, marking the golden jubilee of the formation of Karnataka was met with a mixed reaction.

But it's not just Bangalore that's changing. The state government has decided to give a Kannadiga identity to ten other cities.

The changes are yet to come into effect.

Says Kumarswamy, "The government has taken the decision but we have sent it for gazette notification. The process will be completed within one month."

What's in a name you might wonder? There is a lot, believes the government which hopes to shun the Anglican tone to its names.
