Bangalore: Child Welfare activists in Bangalore on Monday protested outside the French consulate demanding the arrest of an embassy official for the alleged rape of his 3-year-old daughter.
Sources say that as the official holds a service passport and not a diplomatic passport, he doesn't enjoy diplomatic immunity. This means that the police can take action against the official.
The police has approached the MEA for a clarification on his status after his Indian wife accused him of raping their 3-year-old daughter, but is still to get a reply.
The police had earlier registered an FIR against the 37-year-old Frenchman who is the third in command at the consulate.
In its first response to the incident 48 hours after the complaint, the French Consular General has issued a statement saying, "An investigation is under way for which this Consulate General is extending its full cooperation with the police and the authorities in charge."
