Blore relieved as taxis withdraw from strike

New Delhi: There is some relief for people in Bangalore. Taxis in the city have withdrawn from the transporters strike called two days ago, but trucks and lorries will continue to stay off roads.

Though trucks carrying essential commodities and services are still operational, truckers say the services will be affected from Wednesday onwards.

The strike was called in protest against the installation of speed governors in commercial vehicles made mandatory by the state government.

The protest against speed governors is because they will limit their speed to 60 kms per hour.

A four-member delegation representing the transporters is scheduled to hold a meeting with Union Road Transport and Shipping Minister T R Balu on Monday to discuss the issue.

Over 30,000 cabs and maxicabs took part in the strike despite a warning issued by the Transport Minister of taking strict action against them. The BPO and IT industry were the most hit.
