Bangalore airport to miss its opening deadlin

CNN-IBN

Bangalore: It has been billed as India's new-age airport, but the new airport in Bangalore now looks certain to miss its opening deadline of end-March.

While the Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) claims that it is ready for operations although the Civil Aviation Ministry has said that the airport will only be ready a month later in April.

Top government sources have told CNN-IBN that the Air Traffic Control is not ready for operations.

Sources also say that equipment that arrived in February is still being installed; including radar will only be ready by the March 26.

Air Traffic Controllers, who have been recruited, also need more training as the function was provided by the Indian Air Force at the old airport.

And the Director General of Civil Aviation, which issues the operational license to airports, has made it clear that the go ahead will only be given after the airport is completely ready.
