Bangalore's art auction with a twist

Mumbai: It is the opening of a fresh season in art and auctions and sales are in full flow. The latest auction will be held in Bangalore and will have works by eminent artists such as Akbar Padamsee, Jehangir Jani and Satish Gujral.

There may be the same good old Indian Masters whom one can't go wrong with but what's new is that the auction is not a commercial one. On the contrary, it's a charitable auction affiliated with a charitable trust called Concern India Foundation.

International auction house Christie's that does not hold commercial auctions in India has come forward to host this one to lend it credibility and efficiency. Unlike other auctions, most of the works in this sale come directly from the artists and not from private collections.

"Because the works come directly from the artist, the reserve value of these paintings is lower compared to the secondary market," curator, Jasmine Shah Verma says.

With a reserve price of under five lakhs, Bangaloreans should be ready for a treat. The Auction is taking place at the Taj West End on August 10th in Bangalore.
