New Delhi: Two Delhi University students have been arrested for allegedly kidnapping Rahul, a 22-year-old bank employee from Delhi's posh Vasant Kunj area on June 26. The main accused, Naveen is the victim's own cousin.
DCP South, HGS Dhaliwal says, "His (Naveen's) business was doing very badly because of the ongoing recession and his factory had shut down, so he thought he will make up by doing this."
Naveen had suffered severe losses in his export business in the last few months and that is why he conspired against his own cousin. Police officials also say that Naveen clearly intended to eliminate Rahul once his purpose had been served.
Naveen lured Rahul by inviting him for a party. Rahul was picked up from outside his bank and taken to the party. After a few drinks Rahul was overpowered and driven off to Bahadurgarh near Haryana. Rahul's father started receiving ransom calls from the next day.
"They kidnapped Rahul and the next day they made a ransom call to Rahul's father," says Dhaliwal.
Rahul's father, Suresh Kumar says, "They made me run around a lot. I didn't know what to do."
But luckily, Rahul was able to escape from the clutches of the accused and reach home.
"He called up to say he was coming home. He came back himself," says his relieved father.
After investigations, the police arrested Naveen and his friend Kuldeep on Monday and are now on the lookout for the accomplices of the accused.
