Madrid: Cristiano Ronaldo has said Barcelona sitting in second place is powering Real Madrid's Liga push this season as he takes motivation from the opposition being behind.
The Portugal international has proudly billed Jose Mourinho's men as challengers for major honours this season and admitted they have found instant gratification from Barcelona languishing three points behind them in the table.
Ronaldo believes the turn in fortunes being witnessed in Spain thus far can harvest a new winning age at the Bernabeu this term as they look to stay ahead of the Catalans.
"It's important to be ahead of Barcelona. It's a good thing and I think it gives us even more motivation," Ronaldo is quoted as saying by the Adnkronos news agency.
"If we carry on like this then I think we will win something. Real Madrid are currently on course for three titles. We are not worried by Barcelona, but we do not want to speak about revenge as we still have to play them."
Real Madrid take on Valencia in league play on Saturday night.
