Sweden: Barcelona beat Manchester United 2-0 in penalty shootout in a pre-season friendly in Gothenburg.
The match ended 0-0 in the allotted time following United star Wayne Rooney missing a penalty in the first half. Cristian Tello chopped down Nani in the penalty area. Rooney's poor shot was easily saved by goalkeeper Victor Valdes, who parried the ball straight back to the England international who put the rebound wide as the game went into half-time goalless.
Both sides went into the match full strength. The Red Devils included fit-again Nemanja Vidic in defence with Rooney and Danny Welbeck up front and new boys Shinji Kagawa and Nick Powell starting on the bench. Barcelona went in with Carles Puyol, joining Andres Iniesta, Lionel Messi and Alexis Sanchez in the starting XI with David Villa amongst the substitutes.
After both sides failed to score, the tie headed into penalty shoot-out where the Catalans got the better of their English rivals. Nani’s efforts rebounded off the cross bar and away to safety. Xavi for Barca was as cool as cucumber. Ashley Young missed for the Premier League team, leaving Gerard Pique to finish the tie in the Catalans' favour.
