Battle for Gujarat spills over to cyberspace

New Delhi: If you thought pitched election battles are fought only on the ground, log onto reality. The French had theirs, US elections in 2008 already have theirs, and now Gujaratis both inside the state, and around the world are burning the bandwidth for the state's Assembly Elections.

Let's remember the Gujarati diaspora of more than 60 million is spread in every part of the world and they're now all drawing closer to the campaign online.

No matter where your political preferences lie, from the ultra right-wing, to the left-wing liberal, they're all out there on a wing and on a prayer.

And let's not forget those who say they don't care which party wins so long as it is Modi. Now Modi is also the villain of the piece on an equal number of other blog sites like indiequill.wordpress.com.

There are also sites that track every word spoken on the campaign trail from Modi's words defending Sohrabuddin's killing to Sonia Gandhi's "merchant of death remark."

With sites devoted just to the 2002 riots and all that has followed in Gujarat, there's even a debate over whether it's time to move on from that debate.

Popular video website Youtube could quite easily soon be called Guj-U Tube. Hit a search for Gujarat elections and you come up with hundreds of video clippings.

And if you think you are spoilt for choice, and a bit confused in the process, you only need to log on to ibnlive.com for the complete coverage of Gujarat Assembly Elections.

It definitely seems like more and more people are clearly hitting the mouse before they get to the election booth.
