EC Rules
The Election Commission is emerging as the clear winner in the ongoing Uttar Pradesh elections. Forty five per cent of the electorate cast their vote on Thursday and no violence was reported. Polling was peaceful, even in the 500 polling booths in Naxalite-affected areas, where elaborate security arrangements were made.
Out Of Tune
No political party could play the right tune for the family members of late shenai maestro, Ustad Bismillah Khan. His son, Nayyar Hussain, along with his entire family of 65 people refrained from casting their votes because both the Central and state Government did not fulfill their promise to provide financial assistance to the family.
Apart from the Ustad's family, over 2,400 other voters also decided to boycott the elections in solidarity.
Rahul's innings
Rahul Gandhi has expressed his solidarity to the state of Uttar Pradesh. He has promised to play a "long innings" to usher in a new era of development in the state.
The star campaigner of the Congress alleged that during successive non-Congress regimes, the state has fallen off the development map.
