Mumbai: Ahead of Maharashtra Assembly polls, the politics over quota is heating up. After Raj thackeray's MNS, the Shiv Sena has now jumped into the battle of boards.
A day after dozens of ICSE students moved the Bombay high court against the state government's decision to reserve 90 per cent junior college seats for SSC students, the Shiv Sena's student wing, along with parents association, has filed a petition in support of the reservation for state board students.
Shiv Sena MLC, Dr Deeepak Sawant says, "SSC students are more in number and still don't get admissions to colleges of their choice. That is injustice."
Parents of ICSE students are not surprised that the issue is being politically exploited, but they hope the legal outcome will be in their favour.
One such parent, Sanjay Kher says, "Even the government's decision is political. Now all political parties have jumped onto the bandwagon, but the court will give justice."
With over 2 lakh SSC students competing with 15,000 students from other boards, the battle of the boards is getting cutthroat.
With over six PILs over the issue from various student groups and with political parties keen to milk the issue in an election year, the quota debate has split the SSC and non-SSC board students down the middle - a split that could create chaos in the admission process.
