New Delhi: Indian soldiers now have a new space to tell their stories: in black and white and 50 pages. The first edition of Indian War Comics puts the jawaan in the same league as the soldiers from across the world - immortalised in the Commando comics.
Leading the Indian charge is the classic Kargil War story of Captain Vikram Batra.
"Vikram loved comics. So wherever he is he'll be very happy to have a comic in his name. I hope his story inspires young children," says Vikram's father, GL Batra.
But Indian War Comics hopes to go beyond that. These comics might just have their own army of fans soon.
"These men are lauded in war and forgotten in peace. This is an effort to bring them back to the nations consciousness," says the creator of Indian War Comics, Aditya Bakshi.
Next in line is the story of Naik Subedar Bana Singh and his valour in Siachen and with India's endless list of war heroes, the graphic war stories have a treasure trove to choose from.
It is being hoped that these comics will inspire young men to join the forces. Wishful thinking some would say but given the fact that the armed forces are facing a severe officer shortage in the army alone, any little help is welcome.
