Washington: Batman’s female counterpart Batwoman, is all set to make a comeback into the world of crime fighting. However, this time she’ll be a ‘lipstick lesbian’ heroine.

Batwoman’s return as a lesbian was confirmed by a DC Comics spokesman, who revealed that she would now appear in the publication 52.

The new series is set in a world of superheroes like Superman, Spiderman, Batman, and heroines like Wonder Woman don’t exist.

Batwoman, whose real name is Kathy Kane, will be a rich socialite in her latest incarnation, with a romantic history with another 52 character, ex-police detective Renee Montoya.

52 will be published in the UK as a graphic novel by Titan Books in 2007.

Batwoman first appeared in July 1956 but has not been seen since September 1979, when she was killed by the League of Assassins and the Bronze Tiger.

Batwoman’s fresh look falls in the new scheme of ethnically and sexually diverse characters entering the world of DC comics.
