BCCI likely to scrap T20 Champions League

CNN-IBN

New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) seems to be on the verge of scrapping the Champions League, at least for this year.

According to The Economic Times, the tournament has run into rough weather with some foreign boards becoming the biggest hurdle in the organisation of the league.

The tournament was meant to be held in the first week of October and was to feature the top two Twenty20 teams from India, South Africa, Australia and England.

The paper claims Indian Premier League Commissioner Lalit Modi has already informed the stakeholders although when contacted by CNN-IBN, Modi said that no decision has been made as yet.

A BCCI source is quoted by the paper as saying, "The BCCI has not managed to obtain the necessary clearances. September-October was the only window available to host the tournament as other international tours are scheduled for the remaining months of the year. But we could not pull it off. The ICC fears, IPL may become more powerful than the ICC."
