BCCI Secy says Sourav not counted out

Kolkata: Former captain Sourav Ganguly has a fair chance to make it to the national team for the Champions Trophy this year while Sachin Tendulkar was fully fit to resume action, an official of the BCCI said on Saturday.

"Ganguly is a very good player and an excellent batsman. So there is no reason why he can't be back into the side," secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Niranjan Shah said.

"But the final decision rests with the national selectors. Let's hope for the best.

"Tendulkar has been given a fit certificate by physio John Gloster and he has also opened on two occasions."

Talking about India's preparations for the Champions Trophy from October 7 to November 5, he said: "The Indian cricket team will have staggered training camps in Bangalore followed by two practice matches.

"In the earlier camps all the players trained together but in these new camps proposed by the team management, the squad will be split into units of five players and each unit will have separate training stints under the quartet of coach Greg Chappell, trainer Gregory King, physio Gloster and bio-mechanist Ian Frazer," he said.

"At the death of the camp, they will be divided into two teams which will play two practice matches."

He said India's stand on the ball-tampering controversy was still neutral as Pakistan had not approached them, adding former BCCI president I S Bindra will attend the ICC executive committee meet where he will present India's point of view.

On whether Twenty20 will be included in the Commonwealth Games, Shah said: "The association has not approached us. Let them do so and then we will think about it."
