Before the D-day, McCain Obama rally hard

“I need you to make the case. I need you to close the deal, because the time for change has come and you know it. And we have a righteous wind at our backs,” appealed Obama to voters as the campaigning came to a close.

He has seen races tighten before in the primaries. He built a commanding lead only to stumble in the last nomination contests, prompting Senator Clinton, to ask then, “Why can't he close the deal?”

But even Clinton’s most passionate supporters say it's different this time.

“He’s just a much better candidate today than he was in April. I have tried to panic but I can't,” said CNN Political Contributor, James Carville.

That may explain this sign of confidence. A fundraising message by Obama’s camps offers donors a chance to win a "ticket to history”, a choice seats at his election night celebration.

That’s presumptuous, say McCain campaign strategists who see their own path to victory.

“I would say the southwest and Colorado regions are really moving into McCain columns. We are still very competitive and expect to win Florida. But I think the most important state to watch right now is Pennsylvania,” observed McCain Campaign Manager, Rick Davis.

Both sides are laying it on the line. McCain's latest endorsement comes from Vice President Dick Cheney.

Cheney said, “I'm delighted to support John McCain and I'm pleased he's chosen a running mate with executive talent, toughness, and common sense.”

These last minute appeals are aimed at undecided voters who could make the difference.

Analysts say that this could turn the tide in McCain’s favour at the last minute. CNN Sr. Political Analyst, Bill Schneider said, “One thing that we know about the undecided voters is that almost all of them are white. There are very few African Americans who are undecided.”

And overall, white voters tend do tend to favour John McCain.
